SUMMARY:CUGH Webinar: Building Effective Partnerships for Development Between Low-Income Countries: a powerful opportunity for impact
DESCRIPTION:Global health partnerships are often thought of as being between institutions in high-income nations and institutions in low-or low-middle-income countries (LLMICs). Yet\, a top priority for institutions in LLMICs is to build collaborations with institutions in other LLMICs. Such partnerships are powerful due to similarities shared by organizations across language\, infrastructure\, resources\, culture\, and needs. \nBuilding these collaborations is a neglected opportunity that can create durable outcomes that meet the needs of LLMICS. This panel of global experts will share with the audience why these partnerships can be highly effective\, the gaps that exist in creating them\, their benefits\, how they can be created and innovations in strengthening and retaining training capacity in LLMICS. This will be followed by a Q and A with the online audience. This is not to be missed! \nRegistration: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_UZETg2eFRxag3XM_H5zY2Q#/registration \n

SUMMARY:Global Sustainable Development Congress 2023
DESCRIPTION:Topic: Uniting higher education\, governments\, industry and society for a sustainable future\nDate: 30 May – 1 June 2023\nLocation: Thuwal\, Saudi Arabia\n\nWe are thrilled to announce the first speakers for the Global Sustainable Development Congress 2023 at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia from 30 May – 1 June. The congress comes at the pivotal halfway mark between COP 27 in Egypt in 2022 and COP 28 in the United Arab Emirates this November\, ensuring we keep the sustainability crisis centre stage in the region. \n \nAs a leading sustainability-focused academic institution in the region\, KAUST is dedicated to pioneering new models of liveability and ecological conservation and is proud to host the first GSDC in the Middle East. \n\nThe congress will assess the current (in)action with regard to how the sustainability crisis is being tackled. It will challenge the usual thinking on how higher education\, together with the support of governments\, business and society\, can accelerate progress on the SDGs. And it will provide concrete action plans and practical solutions.\n\nUnder the overarching theme of “universities at a time of global crisis”\, the agenda features four streams of content addressing the emergency.\n\n• Health and demography\n• Energy and industry\n• Environment\n• Cities and communities\n\nClick here to register \nhttps://www.timeshighered-events.com/gsd-congress-2023/home

SUMMARY:The Community for Environmental Disciplines in Higher Education (CEDHE) Committee invite you to join them in discussion at the 2023 AGM and Forum
DESCRIPTION:Dear Kesmonds International University Team\, \nAs a Member of the Institutions in Environmental Sciences (IES)\, we invite your students and teaching staff to all over events. \nThe Community for Environmental Disciplines in Higher Education (CEDHE) Committee invite you to join them in discussion at the 2023 AGM and Forum. \nAs skills for our transition to a net zero economy become increasingly important to employers\, we explore what specific skills employers want from Environmental Science graduates in 2023\, and beyond. \nThis year’s FREE online CEDHE Forum\, on Thursday 25th May\, will delve into this theme\, aiming to identify the specialist net zero skills applicable to the environmental sciences\, but also more broadly what range of skills employers want to see in environmental science graduates that will allow their businesses to meet their net zero commitments. \nEnvironmental scientists will be a driving force in the transition to net zero. Practitioners with practical field and lab-based skills\, underpinned by core scientific knowledge\, are going to be increasingly important in meeting the challenges of the future. However\, what specific skills do employers see as being essential for their net zero transition\, and how can they be embedded into the curriculum? \nThe Forum will allow programme teams to hear from a range of employers in the sector\, through panel discussions and presentations about the net zero skills they need\, and will further give attendees the opportunity to participate in group discussions with colleagues about how different universities embed net zero skills into their programmes. \nhttps://www.the-ies.org/events/cedhe-forum-skills-net-zero

SUMMARY:Stanford Existential Risks Conference\, April 20-22\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:From Global Catastrophes to Existential Risks: Intersections\, Reinforcements\, and Cascades \nSponsored by: Stanford Existential Risks Initiative \nThe Center for International Security and Cooperation We’re pleased to announce SERI’s 2023 Existential Risks Conference. You can now sign up to attend in-person\, subject to our limited available space\, or online. Preliminary information about the conference schedule\, logistics\, and frequently asked questions is available below. \nOur 3rd annual Stanford Existential Risks Conference aims to take stock of global catastrophic and existential risk studies. A special focus of this year’s meeting will be risk intersections\, reinforcements\, and cascades: how one risk may amplify (or diminish) another\, and how multiple risks interact to create new concerns that may be larger than the sum of their parts. The conference will also feature discussions of the ethics of radical longtermism. \nThe meeting will take place in a hybrid format. It begins with a welcome dinner on April 20 for in-person participants. All of April 21 will be in-person\, with all events broadcast online for remote participants. The morning of April 22 will feature remote presentations and participation\, available to the in-person audience as well. For the remainder of April 22\, we will close with in-person (and remotely available) events. \nhttps://seri.stanford.edu/events/stanford-existential-risks-conference-april-20-22-2023 \n  \n
